How do I become an iiP Facilitator?
Get started with a 3-day training
iiP offers high quality 3-day trainings that prepare facilitators to deliver the iiP programme with parents. The training is appropriate for anyone working in mental health, social services, education, family support and other caring professions.
Become part of the iiP Community of Practice
invest in play® is building a Community of Practice for iiP Facilitators, Supervisors and Trainers, both locally and internationally. A community where we can share experiences, expertise and passion with each other both online and in real life at conferences etc. We will advertise iiP Community of Practice events and conferences on our website and on our social media so follow us on LinkedIn, FaceBook and Instagram to stay tuned.
iiP is also part of an international network of experts in the field who share the goal of implementing and scaling evidence-based interventions to children: The International Forum for the Implementation of Evidence Based Practice. In this forum, research and successful implementation models are shared and developed with international partners.
Training pathway
Level 1: The training pathway starts from the bottom with the red brick, programme materials. The quality in programme delivery and implementation increases for every brick you add.
Level 2: The 3-day training includes a license which gives access to all the online materials needed to deliver the iiP Core Parent Programme. After the initial training, facilitators are ready to begin delivering the programme to parents.
Level 3: iiP then offers further training to enhance facilitators' skills. Participating in 2 skills-based masterclasses makes you an iiP Accredited Facilitator.
Level 4: You can expand your skills further by participating in 3 video-based, themed supervisions, which makes you a Fidelity Facilitator. Implementation research shows that to maintain positive outcomes for families, facilitators should receive on-going supervision. Therefore Level 4 is our recommended package for sustainable implementation.
Level 5 and 6: The two top bricks are designed to build long term sustainability and enhance cost-effectiveness for the organisation. Once accredited as Fidelity Facilitators you can develop local iiP Supervisors (Level 5) and Trainers (Level 6) in your own organisation.

Package 3 is our recommended package for developing iiP Facilitators .
Once iiP Facilitators are accredited at Level 4 in the training pathway the next logical step for an organisation is to build sustainability and cost-effectiveness by developing local iiP Supervisors and Trainers. The supervisor and trainer levels each require the facilitator to pass a review and participate in the training and accreditation process related to that level.
When the organisation has developed local supervisors and trainers the organisation will be self-supporting in training and supervising new facilitators.
invest in play is striving to build a strong community of practice locally and internationally for all iiP practitioners on all implementation levels.
Implementation recommendations
When implementing the iiP programme this is how to get the best possible outcomes for children and families:
- Train at least three iiP Facilitators to ensure robustness and continuity in programme delivery.
- Provide 7-8 hours a week for 12 weeks for each iiP Facilitator to deliver an iiP parent group. This includes preparation for the group, setting up the room, delivering the sessions with parents and weekly phone calls with parents. Time to conduct enrolment interviews and organise child-care is additional.
- Train iiP Facilitators to Level 4 (Fidelity Facilitators) which includes two masterclasses and three themed supervisions to ensure high quality programme delivery and thereby the best outcomes for children and families.
Add-on modules
There are specific modules, with further training, that augment the core programme with information about neurodiversity for parents of ADHD and autistic children. These modules have been co-created with much dialogue with specialists in the field and those with lived experience. The modules for parents of ADHD and autistic children acknowledge the challenges that these children and their families face but do not categorise these difficulties as behaviour problems or issues to “fix” in the children. Instead, parents receive psychoeducation and learn strategies to support their children’s emotion regulation, co-operation, and social skills, with a focus on also making environmental changes that will help match what their child needs.
The additional modules will help neurodivergent children to thrive by doing better at school, having more friendships and having improved emotional regulation.
The ADHD module
The purpose of the ADHD module is to increase the knowledge about ADHD and thereby help parents and caregivers understand their children better, in terms of the challenges and the benefits that ADHD can bring.
The ADHD module is a supplement to the iiP Core Parent Programme. It consists of:
- ADHD booklet for parents and caregivers.
- ADHD online videos for parents and caregivers.
- One-day ADHD training for facilitators.
- ADHD session guide for facilitators.
- Additional ADHD programme videos.
The autism module
The autism module is currently being developed. We will provide more information as soon as the module is ready.

Co-creating iiP programmes in your country
To provide a culturally relevant programme across diverse audiences, invest in play offers to co-create iiP Core Parent Programme materials with communities who wish to adopt the programme. These adaptations are created in response to community needs and may be based on language, nationality, racial, ethnic and cultural context. The same co-creation process is used to develop supplementary modules for neurodiverse audiences such as autistic people or people with ADHD.
Each culturally relevant version of the iiP programme will be made available to all of the iiP community. This allows providers who work with diverse clients to provide culturally relevant interventions to a broader range of families.
The co-creation process includes:
- Translation and adaptation of written iiP programme materials.
- Co-creation of iiP programme videos locally.
- Training of professionals to deliver the iiP programme.
